WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE CONSTRUCTING
Getting into a big project like a new home build can seem overwhelming. Understanding the stages of building your home will make it clearer and empower you to ensure it’s being done to your satisfaction.
1 – Design, Planning, and Approvals
All new home builds start as an idea and this stage is in some ways the most important. Of course, once you have the perfect design you’ll still need to get council approval to build.
2 – Site Preparation and Foundation
Before building can start the site needs to be prepped. This involves clearing rocks, debris, and trees and then laying the foundations for the house.
3 – Building the Skeleton
The next step is to create your new home’s ‘skeleton’ by building the floor, wall, and roof frames, and installing doors.
4 – Rough Plumbing, Electrical, Heating, and Cooling
At this point basic roofing and siding is installed, alongside rough work for the building’s plumbing, electrical, and climate control systems.
5 – Inspections
Before building can continue, the work done so far needs to be inspected to make sure it meets standards.
6 – Installing Insulation
At this point, insulation will be installed – usually in walls, floors, and the roof – to make sure your home more comfortable and energy efficient.
7 – Flooring and Benches
At this point bench countertops are installed along with all hard flooring materials like tiles, vinyl, and wood.
8 – Lights, Power, Faucets
Your house is getting close to finished now – it’s ready for light fixtures, a power panel, climate control systems, sinks, toilets, and faucets.
9 – Final Touches and Inspection
At this point mirrors, shower doors, and carpeting are installed. Then there’s one more inspection and it’s ready for your final walk-through
