TANNA – VANUATU – 2017
GREENHOUSE CONSTRUCTIONS WITH YOUTH & LOCALS
Tim travelled to Tanna, Vanuatu with son Zac and several other young men to supervise the construction of 48 greenhouses to protect the local NeVans vegetables from ash. There is an active volcano on Tanna and the ash from this coats the leaves of young plants and kills them. The boys not only constructed the greenhouses but then they delivered them to the surrounding villages. Travelling up to 3hrs walk in very steep conditions.
TANNA – VANUATU – 2013
In 2013 Tim travelled to Tanna a remote island of Vanuatu to a school to build a classroom that could withstand the harsh volcanic and cyclonic conditions. They used a method of filling bags with the ash soil and laying them like bricks. One side of the building was dug into the ground and then it was topped with timber cladding. Tim worked as part of a team of volunteers and they appreciated his construction knowledge greatly.
